Christopher Smith

  • Gender: Male
  • Age Range: MiddleAge
  • Category:Houston Based Men, All Men

Born in Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A. in 1959, Christopher Smith grew up in Mexico City, Mexico, after his father moved south of the border to pioneer the Dubbing Industry in Latin America, as demand for content exploded from a then recently unveiled contraption and ultimate Medium, called Television.

Upon graduating as Bachelor of Radio, Television and Film from the School of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin in 1981, Chris moved back to Mexico City with his family, and pursued his career as Media Producer, working then for Independent Production House (Telerey), and the Ministry of Education (SEP), as Junior Producer, Editor and Post Producer for commercials and content, and thereafter, also as Junior Producer, in addition to Director of Photography and Post Production artist, with MexicO’s foremost Television powerhouse, Televisa.

Concurrent with several incursions along the steps of the family’s announcing lineage, first slated by his father Ken who became a famous VO talent in Mexico in the late 1930’s through early 1991, and followed by eldest siblings Ken Jr. and John, Chris’s hard work and late hours in Production affairs not surprisingly landed him the valuable, albeit unglamorous position of covering VO needs during off-day, late night post production emergencies. In an interesting evolution of events, his gigs as he called those moonshine, moment-critical engagements, brought a new and refreshing, enthusiastically accepted tone and style to Electronic Media overall in Mexico, and thereafter evolved into the thrust of a turbocharged VO career since 1986.

No stranger to hard work and dedication he, Christopher’s VO highlights in Mexico include Brand Voice Over talent for the Walt Disney Company, Mexico; Toyota Motor Company, DHL, Reactor Public Radio, 1985-88 WFM Radio (Working with now famous Oscar Winning Producer and Director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (21 Grams, Amores Perros, Belen)), the International English and Spanish VO Feed during the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 1986 World Cup Soccer Championship, On-Camera Coverage of Bob Geldoph’s Live Aid (Music for Food Fest); On-Camera Spanish simulcast of the Annual Academy Awards Presentation (The Oscars) as well as the Miss Universe, Miss USA, Miss Teen USA and Miss World Beauty Pageants, all throughout several years, for Televisa; Voice Over Talent for Intercontinental Hotels throughout Mexico, and many, many other Commercial and Industrial accounts for 23 years now.

In the States, Chris pursues his career a step at a time seeking to attain a firm grip and solid reputation as a reliable, seasoned yet versatile, effective Bicultural, Bilingual VO resource, now in ascent with powerful accounts of the likes of Bank of America, Fruit of the Loom, Johnny Walker and multiple industrial voiceovers.

Chris currently shuttles back and forth between Houston and Mexico City nearly every week, has his own ISDN and MP3 capable hardware-mirrored Studios in both locations, and is an AFTRA – SAG Member.
